REFLECTION

Experiences
This module allowed me to explore type as a core element of visual communication rather than just a supporting design component. Throughout the module, I engaged with various typographic exercises that challenged me to think carefully about letterform construction, spacing, hierarchy, and application. While some tasks required a high level of precision and patience, particularly when refining details such as kerning and consistency, they pushed me to develop a more disciplined and thoughtful design process. Overall, the module encouraged experimentation while reinforcing the importance of fundamentals.

Observations
As the module progressed, I became more aware of how typographic structure influences readability, mood, and meaning. I started approaching my work with a more critical eye, paying closer attention to alignment, proportion, and visual rhythm. This shift in observation helped me recognise weaknesses in my earlier work and apply improvements more confidently in later tasks. Typography became less intuitive and more intentional, guided by clear systems and design principles.

Findings
Through this module, I also strengthened my technical skills by working across different software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and FontLab. Learning to navigate these tools expanded my understanding of how typography functions across both static and digital formats. More importantly, the module helped shape my design thinking, reinforcing the value of precision, consistency, and iteration. The knowledge and skills gained will strongly influence my future design work, particularly in projects involving branding, editorial layouts, and typographic-driven concepts.
