For this project, I developed a proposal for a thematic interactive website for a Luxury Island Guide: Maldives. The aim was to create an engaging digital experience that promotes the Maldives as a luxury travel destination through interactive features, immersive visuals, and intuitive navigation. The website was designed to capture the feeling of exclusivity, relaxation, and exploration associated with the Maldives.
The proposal process included developing the overall concept, identifying the target audience, creating a site map, mood board, wireframes, and an interactive prototype. The website consists of five main pages: Home, About, Resorts, Activities, and Gallery. A key interactive feature is the resort pop-up system, where users can explore detailed resort information, images, highlights, and pricing without leaving the page.
The visual direction was inspired by luxury travel branding, using a clean layout, high-quality imagery, and a colour palette based on ocean blues, sandy neutrals, and tropical tones. Typography choices were selected to reinforce a premium and sophisticated aesthetic.
The wireframing stage focused on creating a clear user journey, allowing users to discover information about the Maldives, explore luxury resorts, learn about activities, and browse destination photography. Interactive elements such as hover effects, image reveals, and pop-up overlays were incorporated to increase user engagement while maintaining a clean and immersive experience.
Overall, this proposal established the foundation for the final interactive website by defining the website structure, visual identity, user flow, and key interactive features that would later be developed in Adobe Animate.
This project was my first experience planning and designing a complete thematic interactive website from concept to prototype. I chose to create a luxury travel guide focused on the Maldives because it is a destination I am personally familiar with and passionate about. This allowed me to combine my design skills with my own knowledge and perspective, making the concept feel more authentic and meaningful.
Throughout the proposal stage, I learned the importance of establishing a clear concept before moving into visual design. Creating the site map, mood board, and wireframes helped me organize the content and define the user journey before focusing on aesthetics. I also gained a better understanding of how UI/UX design decisions influence user engagement and navigation.
One challenge I faced was balancing visual appeal with functionality. Since the Maldives is known for its beautiful scenery, it was tempting to focus solely on imagery. However, I learned that effective interactive design requires a balance between attractive visuals and intuitive user interaction. This led me to develop features such as resort pop-up overlays, hover interactions, and a clear navigation system that enhance the user experience without overwhelming the interface.
The wireframing and prototyping stages helped me think more critically about layout, information hierarchy, and user flow. By planning each page carefully, I was able to create a structure that guides users naturally from discovering the destination to exploring resorts and activities.
Overall, this project strengthened my understanding of the website design process and allowed me to apply both creative and strategic thinking. It provided a strong foundation for the development phase and gave me valuable experience in creating an engaging interactive experience that reflects a specific theme and target audience.
