INSTRUCTIONS
Part 2: Final Dissertation
Students are required to revise their draft dissertation based on the lecturer’s feedback from Assignment 1. The research objectives, research questions and dissertation content must remain clearly aligned throughout the final document.
The final dissertation must:
- Include all corrections and feedback from Assignment 1.
- Have a Final Dissertation cover page.
- Be converted into PDF format.
- Achieve a plagiarism score below 15%.
- Achieve an AI-writing detection score below 20%.
The completed dissertation must be submitted through Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, MyTIMeS (Turnitin) and the student’s e-portfolio blog.
FINAL DISSERTATION
After receiving feedback on my draft dissertation, I revised and refined the research to produce the final dissertation. This stage focused on strengthening both the academic content and the overall structure of the dissertation by incorporating the lecturer's comments and ensuring better alignment between the research objectives, research questions, literature review, methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusion.
The revisions included strengthening the research gap, improving the synthesis of the literature review by comparing and connecting previous studies, and developing a more critical discussion that related the findings back to existing research. I also refined the conclusion to better summarise the key findings and recommendations while ensuring that each chapter flowed logically into the next. In addition, I carefully reviewed the document for consistency in formatting, grammar, APA referencing, and academic writing style. Sections identified by the AI writing report were rewritten to better reflect my own writing, and the dissertation was further expanded to meet the required word count.
The completed dissertation, Graphic Design in Activism: Balancing Aesthetic Appeal and Meaningful Communication in Campaign Design, presents a comprehensive study on how visual design elements influence audience perceptions of activism campaigns. Through quantitative research and the analysis of survey responses, the study concludes that effective campaign design depends on achieving a balance between visual appeal and meaningful communication. The final dissertation represents the culmination of my research journey, combining theoretical research, primary data collection, critical analysis, and visual communication into a complete academic project.
FEEDBACK
Throughout the revision process, I received continuous guidance and feedback from my lecturer, which helped refine both the academic quality and overall structure of my dissertation. During consultations, we reviewed each chapter to ensure that the research objectives, research questions, methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusion were aligned and presented logically.
The feedback focused on strengthening the critical analysis by connecting the findings more effectively with the literature review rather than simply describing the survey results. I was also encouraged to synthesise previous studies more critically, clarify the research gap, and improve the flow between chapters to create a more coherent argument. In addition, I refined the academic writing by improving sentence structure, reducing repetition, and ensuring that the discussion demonstrated deeper analysis.
Further feedback addressed the presentation of the dissertation, including formatting consistency, APA referencing, grammar, and proofreading. I also revised sections highlighted by the AI writing report to ensure the writing reflected my own academic voice and expanded several sections to meet the required word count.
By implementing these revisions throughout the writing process, the final dissertation became more structured, academically rigorous, and cohesive. The continuous feedback played an important role in strengthening both the quality of the research and the clarity of its presentation.
REFLECTION
ExperienceCompleting the final dissertation was the culmination of my entire research journey, bringing together months of research, data collection, analysis, writing, and revision into a polished academic document. Revising the dissertation based on continuous feedback allowed me to strengthen both the quality of my research and my academic writing. Although refining each chapter was time-consuming, the process taught me the importance of patience, attention to detail, and continuous improvement in academic work.
Throughout the revision process, I observed that producing a strong dissertation involves much more than presenting research findings. It requires critical thinking, logical organisation, and the ability to connect every chapter into one coherent narrative. I also realised that constructive feedback is an essential part of academic research, as it helps identify weaknesses that may not be obvious to the writer. Revising the dissertation improved not only the clarity of my arguments but also the overall flow, consistency, and credibility of the research.
Completing the final dissertation strengthened my research, analytical, and academic writing skills while giving me greater confidence in conducting independent research. I developed a better understanding of how to critically evaluate literature, interpret quantitative data, and communicate research findings effectively. Looking back, this project has been one of the most valuable learning experiences throughout my degree, as it challenged me to think more critically and demonstrated how thoughtful research and continuous refinement contribute to producing a high-quality academic dissertation.
