What have I learned in this module?
Throughout this module, I have gained a deeper understanding of fundamental design principles, including Gestalt theory, contrast, emphasis, balance, repetition, and movement. I also learned to critically analyze design works and apply these principles effectively in my own projects. The process of documenting my progress in a blog helped reinforce my understanding and allowed me to reflect on my creative decisions.
What did I enjoy the most?
I particularly enjoyed the hands on approach of the module, where I could experiment with different visual elements and create my own designs. The process of visual analysis was also insightful, as it encouraged me to look beyond aesthetics and consider the purpose and effectiveness of a design.
What did I not enjoy the most?
The most challenging aspect was maintaining the blog and ensuring all tasks were documented properly. While it was useful for tracking my progress, it sometimes felt time consuming. Additionally, some exercises required extensive iterations, which was frustrating but ultimately helped me improve my work.
What have I learned about myself through this module?
It has shown me that I work best when I have creative freedom, rather than being confined to rigid guidelines. This module has made me more aware of the importance of structure in design, and I now see the value in analysing it.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
My approach to design has evolved; I now pay more attention to details and how each element interacts within a composition. However, my passion for abstract and fine-art-inspired design remains unchanged. I still enjoy exploring unconventional ideas, but now I apply design principles more intentionally to communicate effectively.
What are my aspirations?
Moving forward, I aspire to develop my design skills further, particularly in areas like branding, typography, and user experience design. Ultimately, I hope to create meaningful and visually compelling work that resonates with people.
